STYLY Launches Open Source Project for Location-Based Entertainment (LBE)

STYLY, Inc. is launching an open source project for Location-Based Entertainment, providing Unity-based SDKs that streamline the development of multi-user LBE experiences. These SDKs will lower the technical barrier for building XR (AR/VR/MR) immersive content and enable creators to maximize their focus on production quality and experience.

Open-Source Repository (GitHub)

https://github.com/styly-dev/

Key Features of the Project

⚫︎Provides essential networking capabilities for LBE content, where numerous head-mounted displays (HMDs) connect simultaneously

⚫︎Lightweight and high-performance networking that synchronizes up to 50 devices

⚫︎Compatible with multiple HMD manufacturers

⚫︎Easy to integrate into both new and existing Unity projects.

The SDKs will be made available under the *Apache License 2.0* or the *MIT License*, and can be used free of charge for both commercial and non-commercial purposes, by both companies and individuals.

In addition, STYLY plans to offer an operations software suite optimized for LBE operators deploying these multi-user experiences in commercial venues.

*Apache License 2.0: A highly permissive open-source license that allows commercial use, modification, and redistribution, with explicit clarification of patent rights.

*MIT License: A simple and permissive open-source license that broadly allows commercial use, modification, and redistribution.

Why We Built This

Although the global LBE market is expanding rapidly, development remains costly and technically complex, especially around multi-user networking, cross-device support, and on-site operations. By open-sourcing our LBE-focused networking modules and tools, STYLY aims to make scalable, high-quality immersive experiences more accessible to creative agencies and production studios.

About LBE (Location-Based Entertainment)

LBE traditionally referred to experiences offered to the public at specific physical locations, such as theme parks, shopping malls, museums, and pop-up events. Recent growth in XR hardware and demand for interactive experiences has driven rapid expansion of LBE categories including VR attractions, and large scale AR/MR in public spaces that integrate digital enhancements.

Market Context

The global LBE market is projected to grow from USD 5.47B in 2024 to USD 15.33B in 2029 (CAGR 22.9%). Leveraging its experience with projects like ‘THE MOON CRUISE’, STYLY is addressing key technical challenges—device diversity, multi-user sync, and operational complexity—by providing an open and efficient development foundation.
