Redefining Exhibition Viewing with AR Glasses at “Ghost and the Shell” Exhibition in Tokyo KDDI × STYLY × XREAL

Pioneering AR-powered visitor experience that expands the future of museum and gallery business

Tokyo, Japan — KDDI CORPORATION, STYLY, Inc., and XREAL, Inc. launched an immersive AR experience powered by AR glasses at the “Ghost and the Shell” Exhibition, hosted at TOKYO NODE in Toranomon Hills from January 30 to April 5, 2026. The initiative introduces “DEN-NOH Vision”, an AR-enhanced viewing experience that enriches how visitors engage with physical exhibits and marks a significant step towards new business models for exhibition spaces.

AR Glasses Enhance Art and Exhibition Engagement

Visitors at the exhibition can use XREAL Air 2 Ultra AR glasses (approximately 200 units available) to enhance their experience of the original art displays. Through the glasses, attendees will encounter layered digital information, including visual interfaces and contextual interpretations reminiscent of Ghost in the Shell’s cybernetic world, alongside real-world exhibits. A highlight of the experience features a special scene inspired by Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045, blending real space with virtual narrative elements.

Toward a Scalable AR Exhibition Business

While AR technologies have been previously used to enhance exhibits, barriers have remained — including complex indoor positioning, large-scale device deployment, and limited operational scalability. By combining STYLY’s Location-Based Entertainment (LBE) platform (including open-source software) with KDDI and XREAL hardware, the partners have created an exhibition infrastructure capable of operating hundreds of AR devices simultaneously. This enables:

●Seamless integration of XR content with physical exhibitions
●Scalable visitor operations beyond traditional pilot AR activations
●Enhanced engagement and repeat visitation potential for galleries and museums

This collaboration positions AR not just as a supplemental feature, but as a core experiential and business model for future exhibitions worldwide.
